Andrew Southam is the Chief Executive Officer at KAZ Minerals Limited. 

KAZ Minerals is a copper company focused on large scale, low cost, open pit mining in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan with world-class operating assets. KAZ Minerals was previously known as KAZ Minerals PLC, having been listed on the London Stock Exchange from 2005 and a FTSE250/FTSE100 constituent until 2021 when it was taken private at a valuation of over $5 billion. 

Andrew has held a number of senior roles at KAZ Minerals since joining the Group in 2006 including Chief Financial Officer from 2013 to 2017 prior to his current appointment as Chief Executive Officer. Andrew has played a key role in the delivery of KAZ Minerals’ strategy which has combined project delivery with operational excellence. The Group has launched two major greenfield copper projects, increasing copper production from 85kt in 2015 to almost 400kt in 2022, one of the highest growth rates in the sector. KAZ Minerals has in recent years established itself in the first quartile of the cash cost curve, amongst the lowest cost producers of copper globally.  

Andrew is a chartered accountant who began his career at Deloitte in London, where he provided audit and transaction services to many UK listed companies. Prior to joining KAZ Minerals, Andrew worked in corporate development at GlaxoSmithKline plc.
