Charles Lew is Executive Chairman of Hastings Technology Metals, listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. He is an accomplished investment banker and entrepreneur with a distinguished career spanning over 40 years. Having begun his investment banking journey in London in 1985, he moved to Singapore in 1991 and held senior leadership positions in the banking and finance sector in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia before transitioning into the mining industry in Australia in 2013. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to the discovery of a high grade neodymium and praseodymium rare earth ore body at Yangibana, western Australia. In the last 10 years, under his stewardship, he has taken the company’s flagship Yangibana project from exploration to permitting and it is now shovel ready for construction of the process plant. His ongoing vision is to create an integrated mine to magnet enterprise.
As a new entrant to rare earth mining, Hastings is an advocate of sustainable practices in the minerals and resources sector. At the Future Minerals Forum 2025, he hopes to share his insights on the strategic importance of rare earth magnets in enabling green energy transitions, emphasizing innovation and global collaboration.
Mr Lew is a Finance graduate from the University of East London and holds an MSc in Management Science from Imperial College, London.
