Eng. Turki A. Al-Babtain is the Deputy Minister for Mining Development at the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He joined the Ministry as the Assistant Deputy for Mining Investment in 2020. He brings 20+ years of experience in various leadership positions, with extensive knowledge in business development for both mining and industrial sectors. Since joining the Ministry, Al-Babtain has been looking after developing the Kingdom’s mining and metal sector in line with ambitious Saudi Vision 2030 objectives. This includes facilitating private sector investments into the sector by ensuring an easy-to navigate, transparent and investor-friendly climate. He also contributes to shaping the Kingdom’s mining and economic policies to build competitive and sustainable mining value chains while ensuring its high economic impact. Al-Babtain began his career at Saudi Aramco in 2003 as a project engineer, where he worked in several functions such as maintenance, engineering and project management for oil & gas operations. From 2006 until 2008, Al-Babtain joined Samba Financial Group in the treasury department, and managed fixed-income portfolios, money market and financial products trading activities. Al-Babtain then joined the National Industrial Cluster Development Program (NICDP) from 2009 until 2019. In his capacity as the Vice President for the minerals and metals cluster, he led the development and execution of the cluster business strategy and operating plan to attract, promote and enable industrial projects in the Kingdom. He also supported the development and execution of various mining and industrial projects, including phosphate, steel, aluminum, titanium, copper and others. Al-Babtain’s contributions go beyond his executive roles through his memberships in several committees within the Ministry and the industrial ecosystem of the Kingdom. Al-Babtain holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA, in 2003
