Peter Arkell is the Managing Director of Carrington Day, a consulting company that assists international companies doing business in China and Chinese companies to go abroad.

Peter first came to China in 1996 and has lived here since 2004. He calls Shanghai home, where his China head office is located.

He is a prominent member of the mining sector in China, being the Chairman of the Global Mining Association of China (GMAC), the international mining community’s peak representative body, and founding Chairman of the Oriental Mining Club. Peter is also a Member of the Melbourne Mining Club International Advisory Board.

He was appointed for 2019-2024 to the panel of mediators of the Shenzhen International Mediation and Arbitration Centre of China Mining.

He is an active member of the international business community in China, having been a Member of the Board of Directors of the AustCham Shanghai since 2008 and had been Chairman from 2012 to 2016 when he retired from the Board.

He is a non-executive board director of Lynch Group, an ASX listed agribusiness which is Australia’s largest integrated flower grower and wholesaler. It is the largest premium grower in China with four farms and export and wholesale operations in China.

Peter is also convenor and non-executive director of the GE Morrison Institute, an Australian not-for-profit company that taps into the wealth of knowledge of those with deep on the ground experience in China to better inform the discourse in the West of doing business in and with China
