The Metals Company seabed mineral exploration entity listed on the NASDAQ, Base Resources a sand
minerals producer and an ASX Australian entity. Sheila is a mineral, oil, and gas policy advisor whose
recent work includes assignments in the middle east and Africa. Sheila is a member of the Advisory
Board of Columbia University Center on Sustainable Investments, an Associate Fellow of Chatham
House UK, and a member of the Advisory Committee of an EU funded initiative to support infrastructure
projects negotiations between emerging markets governments and investors. She is a natural
resources and energy transition blogger and podcast host.
Formerly, Sheila was CEO of De Beers Botswana and served as a non-executive director of several
Group companies including the leading gem diamond producer, Debswana. She is a former compliance
officer for twenty subsidiaries of Anglo American Corporation and De Beers Groups in Botswana. She
worked for the World Bank and African Development Bank’s mineral, oil and gas policy advisory
divisions leading teams of experts advising governments in Africa, Latin America, and Central Asia.
She advised boards and committees at Oxford University’s Natural Resources Charter, AngloGold
Ashanti plc and LafargeHolcim S.A. Sheila Chaired the Audit Committee of the United Nations Office of
Operations. She has lived and worked in the USA, UK, north, southern and west Africa.
